You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden.
Matthew 5:14
About two years ago, I wrote a Bible nugget about the Tower of Babel, which happened after Noah’s Ark. I posted, deleted, and re-posted several times, then ultimately took it down altogether. I didn’t have the confidence, feared what others would think, and wasn’t ready for feedback. I had my husband, and some close friends read through it, and though I received a lot of encouraging comments, something still held me back.
We’re encouraged to not worry about what others will think and pursue the thing God called us to do. Like Noah. Even though it was socially hard for him to build a giant boat and warn people of a coming flood, he did it anyway. He trusted in God with the outcome, despite how silly he felt.
Ever since I could hold a writing utensil in my hand, I knew I loved to write. Writing has been a thing for me even before I knew how to spell! I scribbled on every line of each notebook I got throughout my childhood, jotted through journals in all my teen years until now, and just several years ago started this blog. I’ve been quiet about it because, well, I was afraid of what you’d think.
No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but instead on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house.
Matthew 5:15
The more I dwell on it, the more I realize that what God put inside of us isn’t just for us. It’s for everyone. He didn’t put us under a basket when He lit us but lifted us up to do the very thing we’re called to do. Just like Noah, God assigned a significant task to Noah because of what he had inside, and He instructed him to tell others!
It’s a lot easier for me to pull back and keep quiet about my blog posts, or even to go back to just my journal. But there’s this desire in me to become a better writer; to sharpen my skills and learn how to receive feedback; to get uncomfortable.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
It’s easier to pull back and keep quiet; to go back under the basket. To hide and do your own thing. But God made it clear that there is greatness inside of us. Everything Jesus said about Himself, He spoke about you, too! (See Matthew 5:14 & John 8:12).
You stand out. Whether or not you want to. You ARE the light. You ARE the salt. You ARE the city. You ARE the lamp on a stand.
I love to write and am challenging myself to put it out there more. I also love Jesus, who I’m becoming in Him, and challenge myself (and you) to put it out there more! LET your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to God.
So, while I go dig up my old Tower of Babel Devo, I encourage you to take a step closer to what you’ve wanted to do for a while. Maybe you want to start a blog, write a book or music, post a video, or paint. Think back to your childhood and do that thing you love to do. Or think back to the last time you thought, “I should do this” and go for it. Don’t worry about what others will think! You’re the light, either way, SO BE.

I love this my beautiful friend! This encouraged me so much to read this. I am glad I will get a little piece of your heart as you keep writing my BFF. You were made for this and it blesses my soul. It will bless so many others too! I love a book by Kris Vallaton that is about Supernatural ways of Royalty, knowing who we are and taking that authority back because belittling ourselves as “Christians” we try and find this false humility but we were made to glorify God through all He created us to do! This is powerful and more people need to hear this message! Way to go! Also I’m an official subscriber! Ha! ❤
